Whatsup everyone! I wanted to pass along the excellent news that the 13th annual CCART Art Show is upon us. For those of you that may not know the Cavallaro and Cleary Visual Art Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in support of visual arts. The primary goal is to provide scholarships to talented high school seniors residing on the Lower Eastern Shore of Delaware, Maryland & Virginia seeking continuing education at their school of choice in the study of Visual Art. CCART also provides a venue for regional artists and art students to sell their work at the annual CCART fundraising art sale. 30% of each sale from the show goes directly to the Cavallaro and Cleary Visual Art Foundation. I've participated in the show for the last 3 years and it's been a pleasure to be a part of. The variety of work available is so vast there's literally something for everyone. From painting & drawing to sculpture & crafts, something will surely catch your attention. I'm also very excited as I'll have available for the show an extremely limited edition one-of-a-kind print. I've team-up with Baltimore's Archival Arts to create a fine art print using high quality archival watercolor paper and archival inks - a process known as Giclée, which enables the print to maintain it's current appearance by never fading, yellowing or changing in anyway. This is also an "artist proof", very limited and fully matted & framed. I'm happy to say as well that the print is of a piece done for The Country, a series of true real-life short stories. If you'd like to know a little more about those you can visit previous posts here, here and right here. The reception for the show is this evening from 4-9pm with a Silent Auction from 4-8pm. It's was an absolutely wonderful time last year with wine, food, live music and of course, a bountiful display of artwork. And I imagine it'll be even better this year. All for the great cause of helping graduating high school students pursue the arts throughout college. Foundations like CCART are what enabled me to have the career that I myself enjoy today. Doesn't get any better than that. If you'd like to visit the CCART website for more info such as hours & dates you can do so by visiting www.CCARTFoundation.org. Come join us for the annual "Lucky 13" CCART Art Show & Sale. See you there! - Doug Whatsup everybody! It's that time of the month again. Today is 3rd FRIDAY and I, along with many others, shall be set up along the beautiful downtown Salisbury Plaza. I'll have comics, prints and original artwork to peruse & purchase. I'll also be available for commissions and sketches, so be sure to stop by early and get your request in. If you've not yet had the opportunity to check out the list of awesomeness that's scheduled here's a quick rundown. These are straight from the typing fingers of 3rd Friday head hancho organizer, Jamie Heater...
And much much more. I'll also be premiering a short video of a painting I created recently of MAD Magazines's main man, Alfred E. Newman. You can check out the finished painting HERE. If you'd like to see the full list of 3rd Friday goodness you can visit their official Facebook page right HERE. See you there! - Doug Just to keep you all in the know I'll be set up at today's 3rd FRIDAY, the monthly arts & music event in the ever-growing Salisbury downtown. I'll be there sporting comics, portfolio, original artwork and doing commissions of your favorite comic characters, or anything your vast imagination can aspire to. To quote the tireless Jamie Heater, 3rd Friday's event planner "We will have Live music from Alex & Shiloh on the Plaza, Interactive Street Art Projects, Two Art Gallery Receptions & Exhibits, and the Kids Area will be jumping with music from The EdgeUcators and a Giant Moon Bounce!" As well as 2 Bellydance shows at OC Kabob, sign-ups for a photo shoot by Culling Innovations and the good fellows of PLB Comics & Trunk Novel Publishing. Sounds like fun, right? To find out more visit the 3rd FRIDAY facebook page right HERE. See you there! - D Whatsup everyone, Today marks a special birthday here in Salisbury. It's the 3rd BIRTHDAY of 3rd FRIDAY! Catchy, no? And the weather is suppose to be a beautifully sunny, comfortable 82 degrees with birds chirping and... wait, actually it's suppose to rain. BUT. The show must go on! Like any good b'day party mere water from the sky will not slow it down but simply grease the wheels. Today everyone will be setup indoors at the Powell Building on the Downtown Plaza in Salisbury. I myself will of course be on display with comics, trade paperbacks and original artwork for sale, my current portfolio will be present as well for any onlooking eyes to peruse and any curious fingers to flip through. I'll also be sketching from start to finish, so if you'd like an original sketch this is your chance! Live music will be going on all throughout the day too, brought to you by the talented fellows of THE HOT MEALS and TEST KITCHEN. Remember to bring your galoshes and I'll see ya there! - D Whatsup all, this Friday I'll be setup at the always entertaining, always lively and most enjoyable local arts & music event, Salisbury's 3rd FRIDAY! If you've yet to partake in the goodness that is 3rd Friday this is the time. I'll be there with bells on (or not) with comics, including LAST CARESS, my newest sequential effort, AND original art as well sketches per your kind requests. See ya out there! - D Whatsup everybody! Just wanted to pass along some cool news to you. I'm extremely excited to announce I will be the "Featured Artist" at today's 3rd FRIDAY. This month's event is Comics-Themed and will be the first outdoors 3rd FRIDAY of the year. In going along with the theme I'll have a select number of comic book pages on display from my past work AND my most recent (and soon-to-be-published!) comic book, LAST CARESS. And if you enjoy flipping through portfolios I'll also have that leather-bound fellow present for any eager fingers. Along with this I'll be getting my hands dirty doing sketches of any and all varieties. You name it, I'm drawing it! And of course, like all 3rd FRIDAYs there are many other excellent things going down - including my pals, and masters of the medium, PLB COMICS. Continuing with the comics celebration the good guys of PLB will be doing sketches, selling their comics, displaying their artwork, teaching how to draw comics to the wee ones, and many other comic-related activities that fall under the category of "FUN". There will also be the most enjoyment one can have with a ping pong ball and a wall of amazing pottery - this they call, Pottery Pong. My good friends at Amused Studios will be setup with Pottery Pong. Simple rules: Toss the ball in the pottery. Pretty easy, right? Once you start though, you can't stop. It's addictive in the best way possible. Along with all of this there's an anime screening, live music from the Interesting Monsters & The Larks, food from Higher Grounds Espresso Catering, and... ROBOTS. Yeah, the US First Robotics Team 3389 will be there with actual real-life robots. How can one resist that?! If I wasn't setup I'd be going. And yet there's still more but my fingers are tiring so... Come out today and enjoy the festivities. I'll be setup, along with PLB, in the Powell Building right downtown on the beautiful Salisbury Plaza. And with this being the first outdoors 3rd FRIDAY of the year the weatherman is predicting gorgeous weather. Even more reason to stop by. See you there! - D If you're in the area the wonderful CCART Art Show will going on in downtown Salisbury, MD from 4pm 'till. It's featuring a multitude of artists from the area, including yours truly. This will be the second year I've personally contributed to the show, this time around showcasing a number of prints of my comic book and illustrative work. Also in the show are two extremely talented ceramicists and very good friends of mine - Robert Johnson (cool name, right?) & Sarah Halcott from Amused Studios. They have on display a number of they're works, from clay pottery & mugs to handbuilt sculpture & ceramic drums. CCART is also partnered up with Downtown Salisbury's monthly arts event, 3rd FRIDAY - which is celebrating the opening of Mojos, as well as the November Tree Lighting. And in case you want to know a little more about CCART... The Cavallaro/Cleary Visual Arts Foundation (CCART) is a 501 (c)3 charitable organization giving scholarships and awards to talented students pursuing professions in the visual arts. CCART serves nine counties in Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia, and is currently celebrating it's 12th year! 30% of ALL SALES go towards scholarship & award funds for up-and-coming artists. It's gonna be good times all around so definitely come on out. Thanks all and I'll talk with ya soon, - D CCART (Located in the Powell Building on the Downtown Plaza) 218 West Main St. Salisbury, MD 21801 410-546-1068 / [email protected] Hi everyone, I've been wanting to post this for a little while now but it kept slipping my mind beneath the piles of paper, pencils, brushes and ink. But now that I've recently emerged, temporarily of course, I've finally gotten around to it. This is a little something I won at the 19th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Art Institute & Gallery. The piece this award is attached to is an illustration called Too Expensive (if you take a glance above at the header there's quick snippet of it) and was done for a book from Alterna Comics. Great people and books over there. If you have a moment you should check them out. Good folks for sure. Of the awards and acknowledgments I've taken home in the past I have to say this one here I'm truly proud of. Not because it "placed", which it didn't, but because it was a People's Choice Award, which means a lot to me. It wasn't a favorite piece in the mind of the judge but instead that of the people at the show themselves. This struck a cord with me and I'd like to send out my sincere appreciation to those who came to the exhibition, enjoyed the piece and voted for it. Thank you. I've now got a nice emerald green friend that hangs out with me everyday on the wall next to my desk. - Doug Hey everyone, Just wanted to let you all know I'm having my work shown this weekend at the Gowanus Ballroom in New York. The opening for the show is this evening from 6pm until' in Brooklyn. I don't have much time to ramble on about how excited I am about this so good ole' fashioned face-value excitement is as much as I can offer at the moment. I will say I'll have 9 of my original illustrative pieces on display and you can see a few examples of those on the Gowanus Ballroom website HERE. Last night I did stop by to take a look at the space and I will say out of all the shows I've been a part of this one is easily one of the most unique, broad-minded, and ambitious exhibitions I've taken part in. The coordinators Josh Young and Ursula Viglietta have really done an outstanding job and I'm truly looking forward to the opening tonight. If you happen to be in the New York area you're more than welcome to stop by. Should be a great time. To take a quote from Josh: "You're not going to want to leave". You can check out their website at www.gowanusballroom.com for information on this show as well as past shows. If you'd like to see the impressive list of featured artists you can do so right HERE. CCART (Located in the Powell Building on the Downtown Plaza) 218 West Main St. Salisbury, MD 21801 410-546-1068 / [email protected] Thanks all and see you at the show! - D I'm excited to announce that my piece "Too Expensive" has been accepted for the 19th annual National Juried Exhibition at the Art Institute & Gallery in Salisbury, MD. This is one of the AI&G's most prestigious shows of the year and I'm honored to be a part of it. To be chosen out of over 300 pieces submitted from around the country certainly makes an artist feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The variety of work in the show is tremendous as well (I was allowed a special sneak peek when I dropped off my piece), ranging from photorealistic and abstract oil paintings to pottery and sculpture. A fantastic show this is looking to be. The opening reception and award ceremony is this coming Sunday, Sept. 12th from 2-4 pm so please feel free to stop by, bask in the glory of the incredible artwork, and get your fix of cheese, fruit, and wine. The opening is Thursday, July 1st (tonight!) from 6-8 pm and yes'm ALL are welcome to attend. I've even heard whisperings of wine and cheese. But instead of cheese it's falafel! Mmmm fun. Fun-afel. Here's a link to the show (it's via Facebook so you'll need to have an account and be logged in, sorry for the inconvenience). If you happen to miss the opening it's no biggie. The show itself will be up from July 1st - 30th. Thanks! Shapiro's Cafe 7 West Preston Street Baltimore, MD 21201-5716 (443) 220-0050 Hey everyone, just thought I'd mention yesterday I participated in an art festival in Salisbury, my ole' hometown, called 3rd Friday. This was the first time I'd set up and/or attended and I gotta say it was a blast. The Hot Meals were jamming outside, the Greenbranch Farm was selling produce and such, and my buddies from Amused Studios were displaying and selling their fine pottery and ceramics. The weather was gorgeous too!
A bit about 3rd Friday, it's located in downtown Salisbury right on the plaza and it happens on, you guessed it, the 3rd Friday of every month. There's food to eat, live music to listen to, cool shops to visit, a bar for the grown folks (or those with fake ID's), and of course, a variety of artists with work on display. Not only that but it's free to attend! Next one is on June 18 from 5pm 'til about 8 so if you're in the area come by and hang out. I'll definitely be there! - D |
