 Good day all, Just wanted to post up my latest illustrated effort fresh from the drawing table. This fellow is based upon the short story titled At the Edge, written by the talented Ms. Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and sits within the pages of Space and Time magazine issue 113, which will be hitting stands very soon.  Happy New Year everyone! Hope all things concluded on a positive note and were memorable on that last day of 2010, but just as memorable going into the first day of 2011. I had a pretty good time myself. Hung out with a few friends and saw a great band, The Hot Meals. If you have a chance definitely check'em out. Funny thing is in the past I used get to a little sad when the year came to a close for some reason. Not exactly sure why. This year however was quite the opposite. As much I enjoyed 2010 and I certainly did, lot of great experiences and met a lot of awesome new people, I've a feeling this year is going to pretty great. And there's something to be said for starting fresh and going at something anew. Nothing can be more exciting or invigorating than stepping foot into the unknown. And a new year is most certainly just that. So cheers to 2011!  Starting off this new year I thought it'd be cool to post an interview I had recently with YeahNewYork.com. YNY is an online magazine that focuses on new artists, musicians, and performers from New York City. Considering I was once a brief New Yorker not-so-long-ago they kindly decided to feature me on their site. I sat down via phone with the friendly Ms. Ashley Nuñez of YNY and chatted a little about art, comics and a bit about myself. Here's a short excerpt from the article. Hope you enjoy!
What is your prediction about the future of comics? In America, comics are geared around superheroes. If you say the words “comic book” to any person on the street, they’re instantly going to think about Superman, Spider-man, Batman, which is understandable because superheroes dominate the majority of the comic scene. But at the very same time I feel comics are branching out into different genres in the same way literature and film do. Works like Blankets, Violent Cases, BB Wolf and the Three LP’s, The Fountain, and Freaks of the Heartland. This is great and is ultimately the best thing for the medium, not only in its success financially and the broadening of an audience, but also in gaining respect as a medium of artistic expression. With other media you have genres of action, drama, romance, horror, comedy and so on. Comics can tell these stories in the same way, if not better. I grew up on superheroes. I’d walk down the street to the Super G drug store and spend my leftover lunch money on Wolverine and Spiderman. And I loved it. Still do in fact. But there’s always room to grow and if there’s anything I can do to help then that’s what I want as artist. If you'd like to check out the rest of the interview you can click right HERE.
